Donathan Bush, President of Piper's Opera House Programs, Inc. Board, appointed Howard Bennett as the Interim Executive Director for Piper's Opera House.
Bennett, a former member of the board, will serve for the first six months of 2002 in "interim" status while a nation-wide search is conducted for a permanent appointment to the post.
Howard comes to Piper's after a twenty-eight year career in education serving Douglas County, Nevada as a teacher and school administrator. His most recent position was the Principal of George Whittell High School, Zephyr Cove, NV. Bennett taught a total of twenty-four years, specializing in American History, Nevada History, American Government and Earth Science. Bennett also served as the General Manager for Yandre & Teague, Limited of Virginia City following his retirement from education in June, 2000.
Howard is a 1968 graduate of Storey County High School, and holds a BA in Education and a MS degree in Education Leadership from the University of Nevada. Bennett has a long history in Virginia City, serving as church organist at First Presbyterian Church for over 30 years.
Bennett's primary role will initially be to coordinate all grant expenditures and oversee projects at Piper's. Further, he will assist in programming and promotion of events in the Opera House.
A major thrust by Bennett will be the establishment and training of a core group of volunteers who wish to help in furthering the restoration of our historic theatrical venue. Anyone interested in serving please call him at the office.
